Collecting autographs through the mail is a lot like riding a roller coaster. There are definitely peeks and valleys when it comes to what shows up in the mail box. Some days you are up and some days you are down. There is also that who waiting thing. Sometimes you have to wait, and wait, and wait to ride the ride. Same with ttms. You send out a request and you wait and wait for a return. Once you have rode the ride though, it is well worth it. The same can be said for collecting.
I am often asked a for advice from new collectors. The basics, the how toos, and the what nots. I give them the best advice I can give, but I am sure to tell them this: You have to be patient. Returns can take days, weeks, months, years to comes back. Some never come back. This is the ups and downs of the roller coaster. You might hit a high where you get in a week straight of mail, then a three week drought. You have to be patient and you can not get discouraged.
Once collector might send the same requests as you to the same people at the same time. They might get their request back and you might not, or vise versa. It is all part of the game. Each request is different. Much like a roller coaster is a different experience for each rider. Sure the tracks are the same, but each person will take away their own personal experience.
My letters that I write are my own personal letters. So while the tracks are the basic same as everyone else, I might get different returns that other people because of what I write.
TTM collecting has twists and turns, peaks and valleys. The cars travel at different speeds. Some people have to wait longer in line than others. It really is a great thrill ride though.
I am really enjoying collecting this year so far. Its early, but I have had some amazing returns so far. Each time I send a batch out, I get right back in line. I start to build the next batch of TTM send outs. I am addicted to this ride and don't plan on stopping any time soon.
Get in line people! Ride the TTM Roller Coaster. JUST BE PATIENT and don't get discouraged.
Cheers
